Guide
Every February New York
City is host to Fashion Week in Bryant
Park. Celebrities and their devoted paparazzi
will be running from show to show, staring
entranced at the runways full of models
decked out in the hottest styles for Fall
2005. Yes fall, as in the season after
summer. Fashionistas will be stalking
the tents in preparation for their post-Labor
Day wardrobes. But for the rest of us,
you know the ones who think about Spring
2005 in the year 2005, here’s a
little cheat sheet for the upcoming season.
Spring 2005 is all about
movement. Styles are flowing and swirling
their way back towards the glamorous days
of the femme fatale. A-line circle skirts
that skim the knee are flirty and sexy
especially when layered. And gauzy sheer
tops are official must-haves, especially
the halters waiting for summer time. The
coatdress also makes a fitting comeback,
accessorized with scarves as belts or
the new tie-on belts in macramé
or with shells and beads.
Footwear is the big story
this season with strappy, high heeled
sandals everywhere. The Grecian sandal,
a prettier version of the old gladiator
sandals, is shown in silver, gold, and
neutral colours. Bye-bye gaudy thick red
straps from the 90’s. While the
high heels flatter any leg and any hemline
there is, thankfully, a stylish alternative
for ladies who stand on the subway everyday
– Grecian flats that tie up around
the leg – think Neferteri from the
movie “Ten Commandments”.
Available in every color style and flavor,
these flats will give ease to those toes
after a day teetering around Manhattan,
plus you can keep your pedicure out of
those Timberlands.
We aren’t all construction
workers, are we? It’s time to be
ladies again: think of the fun and sexiness
of not dressing like your man for a season.
Let the jeans and boots take a breather
while you revisit your feminine side.
You might even score a seat on the train
– a girl can dream can’t she?
