Yoki is a self proclaimed
“carefree, loving individual”.
Not typical character traits for someone
so clearly Hollywood bound. Born of
parents who did the typical Jamaica
–London – New York migration,
he fully embraces the strong work ethic
that comes with his culture. Though
he holds two bachelors degrees from
Towson State University, Yoki decided
fairly early on that he wanted to be
an actor. So knowing that hard work
get results, he has spent the last two
years studying his craft. Whether he
is training at the famed Michael Howard
studio or “just out there auditioning
like crazy”, Yoki exhibits an
easy sense of self that puts the world
on notice.
When he is not being seen
in television shows like “Boston
Public” and “Moesha”
or being featured in music videos, like
Brandy’s “Full Moon”,
Yoki likes to kick back and enjoy the
creative process. His favorite pastimes
are reading, mostly fiction, poetry
and scripts, getting into his music
(he has a major iPod obsession) and
practicing yoga for relaxation. He also
enjoys teaching acting techniques to
children through a program at the YMCA.
“In my down time I try to read,
watch, and do things that inspire me
to look more deeply at myself and get
a better understanding of what motivates
me.”
When Yoki is looking for
a lady to spend some time with, what
does he look for? “I like a good
woman with a warm, inviting smile and
a warm, inviting personality. She should
have a strong sense of self, know what
she wants and not be afraid to go after
it. I’m the kind of guy who wears
my heart on my sleeve and I’d
like somewhat the same in a woman…but
not. I guess my ideal mate is someone
who balances me, so someone a little
more practical would be a good thing.”
Just enough time for a
few more probing questions:
What’s on
your iPod?: “Sorry CV-
no dancehall, I listen to Hip Hop –
some Jay-Z and I am a Tupac fanatic;
and I must have my Bob Marley.”
Name something
you’re not good at: “Dancing,
I have two left feet.”
Your ideal social
environment: “Anywhere
I can be comfortable in my own skin,
no pretense.”
Your favorite
fashion designer: “If
you give me free clothes, you’re
my favorite designer. Did you hear that
RocaWear, Sean John, you listening?”
[laughs]
