Blended
Everton’s
Serenade
Amid
a sea of metal seats,
locs and weed, bass and feet,
fate saw fit to blend
our hearts like wine. Tongues
intertwined in conversation
speaking one mind. On
an ocean of wailing chords
bodies swayed spirits poured
libations, the rhythm interrupted
by two heads held captive
in one accord conversing,
nursing the fear of false
goodness. Tempted to reach
and touch and feel, as proof
this kindred soul is real.
No more elusive, love
took a seat. Safe from
judgment as we meet
ourselves in eyes anew.

Just
a Prideful People
We're
not more wealthy than our
kin
who didn't make the trip
No more ambitious than those
here
who came on other ships
There's
good and bad and ugly too
however it appears
Cut from a cloth like yours
that's dyed in joy and pain
and fears
Don't
paint us with a brush too
broad
unless it’s rainbow-dipped
Don't judge our taste or flavour
lest first from our cup you've
sipped
We're
just a prideful people
climbing with you up this
hill
who play the game with purpose
so our dreams we may fulfill!
