Greetings CV Family-
It’s November, fall is in full swing
with shorter days and the Holidays right
around the corner. Everyone is back from
Miami Carnival and preparing for New York’s
long winter nights. Surely the pictures
in our Event Review will warm you up as
you reminisce about all the carnival fun
in 2004.
Election season is over and the heated
battle has left us with four more years.
The nation saw a record turnout at the
polls by young African Americans and that
is due, in part, to the success of the
‘Vote or Die’ initiative sponsored
by Sean ‘P. Diddy’ Combs.
Black America saw its celebs wearing the
‘Vote or Die’ t-shirt on the
street, on the stage, on the set, and
at the polls. Russell Simmons, the NAACP,
BET, MTV and many others also worked tirelessly
to remind Americans of all backgrounds
that voting is a right and responsibility;
and if you don’t use it you will
lose it! So for all those who recently
got active, stay active, ‘cause
you gotta be in it to win it!!
Reggae is celebrating the 25th anniversary
of a hit making duo known as the ‘Riddim
Twins’ this month. Sly and Robbie
will be joining Reggae music veterans
Jimmy Cliff and Bunny Wailer at the first
annual Reggae Music Fest. Taking place
at the Nassau Veterans’ Coliseum
on November 14th , this concert is the
first in a series of pay-per-view events
being sponsored by Legendary Records.
Also on stage will be chart toppers like
Luciano, Tony Rebel, Maxi Priest, Half
Pint, I Wayne, Jah Paul, and Supa Chile.
Finally, this month kicks off the 2004
Holiday season in all its hyper-spending
and chaos. Try to keep it level and do
one holiday at a time. For those of you
who don’t do Turkey Day there is
still a reason to celebrate. National
Family Week is the third week of November,
so talk to your parents, connect with
your kids, relax with your mate, and celebrate
your family!
