Story - Rupee "Courtesy
of Atlantic Records" |
Rupee is on the verge.
With his single, ‘Tempted to Touch’
in regular radio and video rotation, and
an album due out on a major American record
label within the month, this artist is
poised to be Soca’s next golden
voice.
Rupee’s readiness for the world
spotlight has been building ever since
he won his first Barbados talent competition
as a young teenager. His first hit records,
with the band Coalishun, followed by a
string of smashes from three self-released
solo albums, have made Rupee one of the
foremost names in soca (soul + calypso)
– the supercharged party music of
the Caribbean. He has won over masses
of jubilant fans through his high-energy
soca performances at festivals and concerts
throughout the Caribbean, North America,
and Europe. |

Reggae
Vibe - Capleton |
A wise man once said
that a prophet is never honored in his
own country. And so it has been with Capleton.
While the veteran DJ’s words and
works long ago earned him the title of
“The Prophet,” the respect
and honor that should rightfully be his
have been a long time coming. “Anytime
you try to uplift righteousness and upliftment
of the people them, then you ah go get
a fight”, says the hottest entertainer
in the worldwide reggae fraternity. “Bob
Marley come do it and them fight him.
And when Bob Marley dead, that’s
when they start to endorse him. I already
aware of this, I am not unaware. So I
know the more them fight I is the more
I get stronger.”

Murder
Music |
Dancehall is under heavy
fire around the globe these days for use
of anti-gay lyrics in what they are calling
“murder music”. Bounty Killer
was recently dropped from the Krakrock
Festival in Belgium and gay activists
are taking aim at the industry as a whole.
Recently, Beenie Man and Capleton, were
only allowed to perform at Brussel's Couleur
Cafe Festival after they promised not
to use homophobic lyrics. Both were threatened
with arrest under Belgium's hate crime
laws if they broke their word, according
to a representative from the UK gay activist
organization known as Outrage. FullStory |
