Many of us have come to know him through radio. His smooth professional style the rich articulate sound that makes you want to listen repeatedly. The impression left is of an individual who is totally respectful of his craft and who gives 100 percent to his commitments. You are then left with a yearning to want to know him, to be a fan and for female listeners the quest may become an obsession or infatuation. Getting to know the “celebrities in our community,” is not always easy due in part to their M.O. or because of living in two different worlds. What we find is that the worlds aren’t all that different and the personalities are just like the guy next door. ‘Dubbmaster Chris’ or ‘Chris the Dubbmaster’, take your pick is that warm, ebullient, character you hear on Irie Jam Radio (93.5 FM WRTN) weeknights 8pm or Saturdays 1-6pm. He has that air of mystique about him and with good reason. His very private, reserved persona dictates his style and has shaped his character throughout life.

It was indeed exciting to “demystify” Chris, for you all and now, only I have the “goods” on him, some of which I will share. He is more than happy to speak to the fact that he enjoys his career and wouldn’t change a thing if he had to do it all over again. He got the name Dubbmaster, because of all the Dubs and Rhythms he played while on college radio, at Brooklyn College but his interest in music was developed from the days of Kingston College and Exed, back in Jamaica. School and house parties were his training ground. Although Chris was an accounting major at Brooklyn College he followed his passion, music and radio, where he is as solid as he is respected. His vast knowledge is a result of some twenty plus years in radio. Leaving College Radio he first worked with Clinton Lindsay 105.9 FM then with Prince Kalunda on 98.7 Kiss FM. These stints preceded first his present career with Irie Jam 93.5 FM since 1994 to present. His sound system ‘Dubbmaster International’ is an established sound in the dancehall. Never satisfied he wants more and is thinking of music production and launching his own record label as a full venture.

So does a guy engulfed in his work find time for fun? Not much. Leery of dating in the same world he works and plays, the challenge for him is to figure out motives, (you know how we sometimes go after someone because of who they are). You get to a point where it’s easy to understand the difficulties of being in the public’s eye and considered a celebrity of sorts; you just don’t know what is real.

Saying Chris is the real deal is a huge understatement. He is sensitive to and greatly respects the idea of a committed relationship. It really doesn’t get better than this. Where do you find a guy who can stay above the fray in today’s society of disposable everything (yes, women included), crass attitudes and perverse thoughts, who is so grounded and value oriented? Consider that in his thirties, by years closer to 10 (not trying to be funny he wouldn’t be specific), he doesn’t believe in shacking-up. He is not yet a parent, as he firmly believes in marriage before children. Chris’s demeanor can be described sometimes as stoic. He is very deliberate in his thoughts and actions believing firmly that it’s best to take things slow and get to know someone. So, we wanted to find the ‘romantic’ Chris, the ‘serious relationship’ Chris and the ‘fun’ Chris and I am pleased to report that they all exist in this charming creature. His likes to share quality time with the woman he is interested in as it gives him the opportunity to get to the beauty on the inside. He describes himself as flexible and willing to make adjustments to please his partner. We at CV have made the introduction…the floor is now yours.
