To be Dennis Hawthorne in the Caribbean
Business Community is to be a man highly
respected, greatly admired and appreciated
for among other things his magnanimous
spirit his patriotic sense and a great
desire to serve the community. As his
bio reads Dennis’ successes in business
have been cultivated in his deep drive
to succeed, coupled with a strong entrepreneurial
spirit. His company, Dennis Shipping,
currently located at 1124-28 Utica Avenue
in Brooklyn, has been a market leader,
providing safe, valuable, quality service
in the tri-state area and the Caribbean.
He has led with honesty, integrity and
vision in his position as CEO of one of
the largest Caribbean-American shipping
Companies. Always accommodating and selfless
Mr. Hawthorne, leads the way in the art
of respect and acknowledgement of others.
In a strikingly humble way, he has made
his name through the many humanitarian
efforts he undertakes in the community.
His commitment to the East Flatbush Community,
where the business is located is unquestionable.
In his own words, "Give a community
of good people, good services, respect
and opportunity, and the potential for
growth is inevitable".
Mr. Hawthorne is dedicated to outreach
programs. These include the East Flatbush
Friends Education, Caribbean American
Outreach Association, Children Outreach
of Jamaica, Kings Highway Development
Project, Grange Hill Alumni Association,
UJAA, many local churches, senior civic
organizations, and schools.
He has received honors from several
organizations, among those, The Consul
General of Jamaica, 2002; The Committee
for Assemblyman Nick Perry's Distinguished
Business Leadership Award, 2002; Caribbean
Voice, 2002; The United States Cricket
Promoters, 2002; Brooklyn Cricket League,
2000 and Friends of The Maxfield Park
Children's Home, 2002; Marcus Garvey Determination
Award, 2003, from the East Flatbush Friends
of Education; Businessman of the Year
Award from Deeper Life Tabernacle Church,
2003. He is also the co-founder of the
Caribbean American Shippers Association.
He continues to get recognition for his
work, which will no doubt continue.
