
Atlantic Records is on
a Caribbean music roll. The soundtrack
for the New Line Cinemas upcoming movie,
“After the Sunset” will
feature songs from Kevin Lyttle, Rupee,
Cutty Ranks, Shaggy, Mad Cobra, Dawn
Penn, Sean Paul and Junior Murvin to
name a few. The action packed movie
about a heist that takes place in the
Caribbean is shot on location in the
Bahamas and stars Pierce Brosnan and
Salma Hayak. 10% of the soundtrack proceeds
will be donated to the Caribbean Tourism
Organization Relief Fund to help with
the region’s recovery after a
devastating September hurricane season.
Elephant Man has teamed
up with rapper/actor Will Smith on a
remix of a new single from Smith's latest
album. A video for the collaboration
is reportedly set to be shot in Jamaica.
Also look for Ele on the 2004 Vibe Awards
later this month where he is a nominee
along with Kevin Lyttle, Beenie Man,
TOK and Vybz Kartel in the Boom Shots
award category.
‘Can’t Satisfy
Her’ the hit single from I-Wayne
will soon be available on VP Records’
‘Strictly the Best’ compilation
series, is spending its 6th week at
the top of the NY Reggae chart. At the
same time, his follow up single ‘Living
in Love’ has inched up from number
eleven to number four in its fourth
week on that tally. ‘Can’t
Satisfy Her’, which spent multiple
weeks at number one on the local charts,
is also number one on the BBC Radio
1Xtra Dancehall chart in London.
Sean Paul recently, donated
$5 million to Jamaica Institutes of
Education and Social Agencies to help
those hit hard by Hurricane Ivan. While
completing work on his third album,
he also recently did a collab with Fabolous
that is scheduled for release this month
on the rapper’s latest album,
REAL TALK. And forever working, Sean
Paul and Ziggy Marley join forces on
the remake of the Bob Marley classic
‘Three Little Birds’ which
is featured on the “Shark Tales”
movie soundtrack.
Damion "Junior Gong"
Marley along with siblings Stephen and
Julian will travel to Jamaica from various
locations overseas to headline the historic
50th anniversary of Studio One on November
27. According to information from Studio
One, Tuff Gong is a major sponsor along
with VP Records, the British Broadcasting
Corporation (BBC), Irie FM, Puma, Cable
& Wireless, Star Time Production
from Bermuda and Dubb Stores from Japan.
"The Marleys will take the excitement
up one more notch, and will add to the
already fantastic line up of artistes,
some of whom are returning home from
overseas to participate in the nostalgia,"
director of business affairs at Studio
One Lou Gooden said. The Marleys will
share the stage with a number of foundation
Studio One entertainers such as Marcia
Griffiths, who is celebrating her 40th
anniversary in the music business. Then
there will be Mr. Rock Steady Ken Boothe,
Winston Francis, Derrick Harriott, the
Mighty Diamonds and Culture among many
others.
