Caribbean Entertainers And Business
People Move To Replace WLIB
In the wake of the sale of WLIB-FM, a
radio station that has served the Caribbean
population in New York City for 30 years,
a group of Caribbean business men and
entertainers have joined forces to create
a new station.
Currently made up of business men such
as Tony Miller and Bobby Vera, along side
veteran performer Mighty Sparrow, the
group was formed to fill the void left
in the community after the unceremonious
demise of a station that has served it
for decades.
The new station will follow a 24/7 format
of “news, views, interviews and
good music,” according to Miller.
The station will showcase the best of
yesterday and today’s Reggae, Dancehall,
Rocksteady, Calypso, Soca and Gospel music.
The call letters and frequency are currently
under wraps but they are ambitiously looking
forward to an April 1st launch date.
The most important ingredient needed
to solidify this venture is capital. The
unnamed consortium is seeking start-up
capital to back their valiant efforts.
Anyone interested in becoming part of
the foundation of this Caribbean owned
and operated radio station should contact
Tony Miller at 718-641-5198.
In closing Mr. Miller states, “We
are just looking to save the music.”
