The Island of St. Kitts
Welcome to the exotically beautiful
island of St. Kitts. Like no other island
in the Caribbean, St. Kitts seems to embody
a kind of lush tropical paradise usually
associated with the South Pacific. The
island is populated by approximately 42,000
natives with an average climate ranging
from 68 – 90 degrees. The Capital
is called Basseterre and was founded by
the French settlers in 1625. Christopher
Columbus first spotted St. Kitts in 1493,
when it was populated with native tribes,
but the Europeans didn't colonize it until
the British arrived in 1623. Its strategic
location and valuable sugar trade led
to an advanced and luxurious development
that was among the best in the Colonial
Caribbean.
The island is filled with stimulating
blends of sunlight, sea, air and fantastically
abundant vegetation. At the center of
St. Kitts stands the spectacular, cloud-fringed
peak of Mount Liamuiga (pronounced Lee-a-mweega),
a dormant volcano covered by a dense tropical
forest.
Tourism:
St. Kitts is high in tourism, its intoxicating
natural beauty, sunny skies, warm waters,
and white sandy beaches combined together,
makes St. Kitts one of the most seductive
spots in the Caribbean.
Food:
The natives of this island eat very healthily.
They cook plenty of vegetables but are
also known for Local dishes including
roast suckling pig, spiny lobster and
crab back.
Music:
St. Kitts celebrates Carnival in late
December going into the New Year, so while
we are getting ready to ring in the New
Year they are enjoying their cultural
heritage with singing, dancing and live
music rumbling through the streets with
in an array of costumes filled with vibrant
colors and much excitement. Now how can
we top that?
While development has been of the highest
quality, it has fortunately remained in
low quantity, so St. Kitts remains un-crowded
and unspoiled, famous around the world
for excellent preservation of the ecosystems.
Nature lovers will want to take advantage
of the various tours through lava formations,
tropical forest areas, and seaside lagoons.
Boating tours and scuba diving expeditions
are also favorite activities. So if you’re
looking for some much needed fun in the
sun, I suggest you run away to the beautiful
island of St. Kitts. Where you can still
escape to heaven while still here on earth……….
