Catch A Fire, Bob Marley’s first album is the name chosen by his eldest child, Cedella Marley, to represent the vision for her clothing line. Who else could translate so perfectly the natty styles her father became known for in the late 70’s. Those were the days of transformation for performers as well as the world. Denim became the signature item embraced by those who wanted to wear their free minds as well as speak them.

Inspired by a fascination with the funky experimentation of the1970’s, Cedella blended in some Caribbean spice and created a clothing line that has allowed women to explore a more laid back sensuality. These very body conscious pieces incorporate a breezy freeness with lots of denim and leather. Her father’s lyrics adorn belt buckles and tee shirts, while other clothing has references to the places touched by his legacy. For example, the best selling Kingston jacket has been featured in Source magazine and has the words ‘Kingston 12’ embroidered on the back. Her tee shirts have been worn on MTV’s TRL, and Sean Paul, an artist credited with the resurgence of showing our colors, has been seen wearing the tee shirt bearing the famed Annie Liebowitz Rolling Stones cover. The new line unveiled at the Third Annual Caribbean Fashion Week in Jamaica sports gauzy sheer fabrics paired with the trademark denim and some softer silks and jersey fabrics.

Cedella is a true woman of the new millennium juggling her roles of mother, Melody Maker, CEO of Tuff Gong International and founder and designer of Catch A Fire Clothing. Her refreshing mix of urban style and vintage accessories keep us waiting for a glimpse of her latest rude boy interpretations. Her products can found in Brooklyn at Pieces Boutique, in Manhattan at Saada Boutique, or in South Beach, Miami at the new Vintage Marley store that is owned and operated by her brother Robbie Marley, just to name a few venues. She can also be found at www.catchafireclothing.com. Wear your independence and let your soul catch a fire!
