All hail the king! It was an evening of reminiscing and eager anticipation as the crowd at the newly renovated Bubbler’s club waited to see the King of Dancehall. In the late 1980’s and early 1990’s dance floors were never long with playing a Shabba Ranks tune. Not much had changed on this cold night in December when renown, DJ Sting International, kept the crowd baited, playing just enough of Shabba Ranks’ hits to keep them hungering for more.

Shabba made history over a decade ago by introducing Dancehall music to an international audience. In the 1990’s his style of hypersexual lyrics and even more sexual performances earned Shabba industry success with gold records and Grammy awards.

Soon the original Mr. Loverman took the stage and the crowd of hundreds of fans pressed towards the platform. Yes, it was him. Looking fit and trim, exhibiting the stamina of a decade ago, he called out the lyrics to his top rated songs and the masses answered. Soon the entire dance floor gyrated to “Wicked in Bed”, “Trailer Load”, “Ting a Ling”, “X-Rated” and so much more. After he done lick tune after tune for over one hour, it was time for the Dancehall pioneer to step out of the public eye once again. We hope his time away won’t be gone so long!
