It’s the final month of the year!
As we close out 2003 there are a lot of
achievements to be proud of. We are catching
the eye of the entertainment industry,
and making much anticipated inroads. But
sometimes recognition can bring its own
share of challenges. Let me make it clear.
A major industry publication has recognized
where we intend to go with this magazine,
your magazine. And since Caribbean music
now represents more industry revenue,
everybody wants to “mine fi dem
plate”. As a result we have been
“requested” to stop using
the name of that publication as part of
the name of our publication – again,
your magazine. So as of our January 2004
issue, we will be known as Caribbean Vibrations
or CV, still representing Caribbean and
Urban Entertainment. So when you see us,
just know that it is still us and we are
preparing to bring it even harder in 2004!
The entertainment industry has seen
much change this year. We saw Diddy run
the city and become the first Hip Hop
artist to donate $1 million to New York
City’s school children. That showed
the masses what we always knew could be
achieved when we all unite for a cause.
What will our kids look forward to when
other artists start to repay their biggest
fans with lasting monuments like that
one? Sean Paul became the first Caribbean
artist to grace the cover of a major US
publication! Show your colors SP! Caribbean
and Urban music dominated Billboard’s
album charts for countless weeks this
summer. We’ve lost people that we
didn’t expect to lose so soon like
Barry White, Gregory Hines, Celia Cruz,
The Honorable James E. Davis, Fred “Rerun”
Berry, and John Ritter, to name a few.
Those losses remind us to make every day
count, and with everything we do—make
an impact!
Parties, fetes, shows, and black tie
dinners are all being planned for your
enjoyment. Check out the new links on
our website for news on exciting events
taking place throughout the Tri-state
area.
I‘d like to wish everyone that’s
part of the Caribbean and Urban equation
a happy and healthy holiday season. Even
with all the hustle and bustle always
take time to appreciate what’s going
on around you. See New York City’s
sights all lit up. And help brighten someone
else’s day by being a gift not just
giving one!
Till Next Time-
